Meet Dr. Mullins
N. Carroll Mullins, DDS
I am blessed and lucky to be a dentist, and truly enjoy helping the people of our community. From my days in the Army at Fort Knox, KY, to my current practice, I have always enjoyed getting to know people through dentistry, and helping them attain beautiful smiles and optimal oral health.
Education and Continuing Education
Prior to becoming a dentist, I attended University of Virginia's College at Wise, where I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. I then attained my Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree (DDS) from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1974.
Dentistry has changed a lot since I started practicing, and I have always enjoyed researching the latest methods and techniques in my field. My continuing education is incredibly important to me, because I know it is the best way to ensure my patients are receiving high-quality, gentle care. As a part of my continuing studies, I am an active member of the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association and the Lonesome Pine Dental Association.
In the Practice
I want my patients to feel empowered when it comes to their oral health. I enjoy educating them about what we do here, and how to best take care of their teeth and gums at home. Oral health and overall health are closely related, and the more my patients know about preventative care, the better it is for their well-being.
My patients are very important to me, and I enjoy building personal connections with them. We see patients of all ages, and I enjoy hearing about their lives and families. I get to see some of my patients in the grocery store or around town, and I love seeing their grateful smiles both inside and outside the office!
Family and Community
I grew up in Wise, VA, and love living in Norton. In my spare time, I enjoy golf and music. I even teach a course about The Beatles at UVA Wise! My son Bryan and his wife Marilyn live in New York, and my son Brent is now living in Los Angeles.
I enjoy being involved with our community, and am an active member of the Wise County Kiwanis Club, and provide care at various health clinics in the area, including the Virginia R.A.M. projects. Additionally, I am on the Board of Directors of the Poor Farm Society at UVA Wise.
